Health Screening · Free Tool
Could you be at risk of malnutrition?
A free, private 3-question check using the validated Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST), the same quick screen used in Australian clinics and hospitals to flag when nutrition support may help.
Malnutrition isn’t only about being underweight, unintentional weight loss and a poor appetite can affect anyone, including people who are overweight, and they quietly slow recovery and sap energy. The Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) is a validated 3-question screen used across Australian healthcare to flag who might benefit from a closer look. It’s a screen, not a diagnosis.

Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST): Ferguson M, et al., Nutrition, 1999. Widely used in Australian clinical practice.
Clinical-grade. Private by design.
Built by Accredited Practising Dietitians, and every calculation runs privately in your browser.
Who is this for?
It’s useful for anyone who has been unwell, has a chronic condition, is recovering from surgery, or cares for an older relative. A score of 2 or more suggests it’s worth speaking with a GP or an Accredited Practising Dietitian, who can assess properly and help, often with simple, practical changes.
What happens if I’m at risk?
Being flagged doesn’t mean something is seriously wrong, it means nutrition support could help you feel and recover better. Our Medical Nutrition Therapy dietitians work with weight loss, poor appetite and chronic illness every day. Get in touch.
Frequently asked questions
Is the MST a diagnosis?
No. It’s a validated screening tool that flags possible risk quickly. A score of 2 or more is a prompt to seek a proper assessment from a GP or dietitian, not a diagnosis in itself.
Where does the MST come from?
It’s a published, validated tool (Ferguson et al., 1999) widely used in Australian hospitals and clinics because it’s quick and reliable. We present it here as an educational self-check.
I scored 2 or more, what should I do?
Speak with your GP or an Accredited Practising Dietitian. Simple changes often make a big difference, and they can rule out or address any underlying cause. Get in touch.
Is my information private?
Yes. Your answers are scored entirely in your browser, nothing is sent or stored. Only anonymous, aggregate usage is recorded.
