Can you get Medicare help to see a dietitian?

A free, 2-question check from Ausclin’s Accredited Practising Dietitians. Find out whether you may be eligible for Medicare-subsidised dietitian visits under a GP care plan, your GP and Medicare make the final call.

Seeing a dietitian can be more affordable than people expect. If you have an ongoing (chronic) medical condition managed by your GP, you may be able to access Medicare-subsidised allied-health visits, including with an Accredited Practising Dietitian, through a GP care plan. This quick check, built by our team, points you in the right direction. It’s general information, not a guarantee.

How the chronic-condition pathway works

If your GP is managing an ongoing condition (like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis or kidney disease), they can prepare a chronic condition management plan. That plan can include a referral for Medicare-subsidised allied-health visits, up to 5 per calendar year, shared across all allied health (dietitian, physio, podiatry and so on). Your GP decides what’s clinically appropriate.
